So last week, I came across a task. The said task, involved a feature to be enabled by the firmware team, then it comes to my team where we characterize the hardware performance. Usually, there is a little bit of overlap between tools and code and we’d build our scripts looking at what the firmware engineers do. For this task, I reached out to this engineer, calling him Aaron, and he shared his scripts and some simulation data. Standard operating procedure until this point. Today, he pinged me on teams to check if I got my task working. I replied that I did and also said “thanks for helping me out with the pre-silicon data Aaron”. Well, not to get bogged into the details but he, a LV4 engineer asked me (LV3) if I could send an email “expressing my gratitude to him with his manager added to the email”. I said sure, I’ll get some data out and send that (because I felt that a plain email would sound not genuine. This never happens really) I’m conflicted, is this normal behavior? Why is Aaron doing this, he’s more experienced as well. I will do it this time because I committed, but I’m not sure I feel comfortable being asked to send out a thank you email to someone with his boss cc’ed.
It’s a favor You can just say sure and not do it by “forgetting” or “being busy” In this day he thinks anything in writing may save him from a layoff I don’t want to be awkward and ask for something by simply doing my job But that’s Me and he’s him Lastly i would share your total comp
Thanks. TC: 170, 4yoe
