Woman’s offer rescinded due to pregnancy
I have posted previously about my 5 years in data science and being at a crossroad as the company which hired me recently (not Aimia) has misrepresented this data scientist job (it is more business analyst tasks). It has led me to take a step back and to have a deep thought at what I like in data science and this is the python / r programming side of it. It leads me to consider a career switch to software engineering. To build quickly a portfolio, I would prefer the bootcamp route. Having a Canadian / European passport, I am quite flexible and open and can travel and stay to the right bootcamp in Europe or Canada. Which boptcamp in software engineering will you advice then? Thank you so much.
Interview Kickstart is pretty solid
I’ve seen it advertised a lot here on blind. Could you elaborate more on how IK is pretty solid please
Isn't that more for current SWE trying to get into big-N companies?
I would recommend one with a refund guarantee—find a job in X months or your money back. I went to Thinkful, and it worked out pretty well for me.
Try going the self taught route. There are so many syllabus you can follow. Some even put out by bootcamp. I went self taught route. Was hard but managed to get a contract backend job in 1 year of self-studying. Bootcamps give a similar timeframe of finding job
Most "data scientist" jobs are indeed just rebranded BA/BI roles. Generally speaking it's hard to get true DS jobs without a rigorous academic background.
I have two master's one in physics, the other in marketing plus a full graduate program in data science. I think I can do better of my days at work :). I was clearly being misrepresented this job and this is unfair for me but I have to learn positive lessons from this deceptive experience and move on.
