Want to spend the next few years trying, Currently my plan: - Gain general C++ experience at Bloomberg - Get into a team at Bloomberg that does more low level C++, low latency, concurrency, etc if possible - Grind Leetcode hards and eventually be able to solve them on command (currently have 450 mediums) - get 2200+ contest rating on Leetcode (currently 1800) My motivation: - I've always been interested in trading and it sounds really cool to work on - Prestige - Pay Any feedback welcome including trolling. Cpp is not a requirement for swe at most shops
Good to know. What's most important, LC?
Yes lc. Getting a swe job at a trading firm is a lot easier than you’re making it (it doesn’t take years to prep) but yes you need to grind leetcode
I think system design would still be needed for these interviews apart from LC
Ohh right. Forgot about that, since I'm a new grad and didn't have to study SD
SD is tougher and more complex than we all think. But it’s usually a conversation and convincing in interviews IMO
Spend some time to review cs basics like OS/network/architecture…
Nobody cares about which team you end up working for at Bloomberg. The ones you mention are likely infra teams that barley ship anything to production and are burdened by a ton of red tape. Focus on leetcode and design. Citadel expects flawless performance.
Your leetcode skills are likely enough to pass interviews at top HFTs already (assuming you’re consistent). Instead focus on explaining your thought process, communication skills, being a likeable person, some system design (likely applied to a trading system), etc. Source: many HFT / hedge fund offers
Really? I don't feel like I'm that good. Especially when I do Leetcode contests, I can only solve 3/4 questions. I actually think I'm pretty good at explaining my solutions, because I do write-ups on solutions as I do LC
Also I'm really curious why you picked Meta > HFT offers?
@meta can I DM you?
LC, LC and LC. DS and Algorithms, in depth. C++ low level stuff. Always think about optimal solution to everything
I don’t think it’ll take several years. You could try even next year
I thought it'd be harder than that
I think as long as you can lc and can get the interview you’ll be fine
