Talking to my recruiter about a position at Slickdeals, recently acquired by goldman sachs, and was curious to know what its like working there (culture/code). I heard its fun and culture is good (both LA & LV) but what about code? TC: 65
No insights into work culture but it was acquired by Goldmans private equity arm which almost definitely means corporate restructuring, probably cutting costs and an aggressive attempt to turn the company around. For reference, Toys R Us is the type of company that a PE firm would buy (and did â they are owned by KKR). This can mean a few things. 1. They probably arenât doing super well financially 2. Goldman PE thinks they have enough potential to be turned around and made profitable I think it could be a high risk high reward situation where you could end up in a really good place so long as you survive whatever they do for restructuring
Worth trying for compared to my position is right now. Thank you for the insight, this helps a lot. I assume general population doesnât really think it could turned around because... slickdeals?..
I mean itâs not such a one dimensional picture â the platform itself may be popular, but lacking in revenue generation which would be what Goldman would try to achieve. The potential upside is that while they try to do this, there may be a good number of high visibility projects that you as an employee can participate in as part of the effort to make the company profitable for its owners. Think about it this way. Goldman wouldnât spend 500m on something they didnât think would eventually be profitable. It just depends how they do it that will affect you as an employee. If the route they take is to slash headcount and cut perks, then thatâs bad news, but I donât know what they are thinking and itâs anyoneâs guess how they want to approach it.
I can answer some questions about the culture. However, things might change since we are in the middle of a re-org.. I've been to both the LA/Vegas offices and they're both nice. Both have semi-stocked kitchens with snacks, drinks, etc (Vegas actually has a full kitchen). Most of the people I've met have been very friendly - the company is only ~100 FTE so interactions are very personal. In terms of WLB, I think it's pretty balanced in that you have control over your career growth. If you want to just cruise, you can definitely do that. But if you want to grow, there's a lot of work you're welcome to take on. In terms of eng culture, I would say we're still young and still learning.. We're definitely not FAANG quality but hoping to improve our org as we bring on more senior talent. Let me know if there's anything specific you're interested in
Hi! Thank you for commenting and willing to answer questions. I would be going to the LV office since I live here. What would the interview process be like for someone whoâs self taught with 6-7months YOE? My recruiter said the position theyâre hiring for is perfect for me. Would they be asking any algorithm questions or more on my knowledge of my skill set (React, typescript, redux). What is the tech stack that slickdeals is working with? We can DM each other if youâd like
