Current role: Role: Director of PM. Team of four. TC: 240K Great WLB (work ~35 hours/week) Fully remote Low on politics No potential for growth - it's a small company whose best days are behind it. Google offer: Role: L6 PM (Google Merchant Team). IC. TC: 480K Hybrid, short commute (SF-based) I'm feeling weirdly torn on whether to take it. Yeah, the bump in TC is massive. But I hear so many things about how unhappy people at Google are these days, and how the WLB is going down the tubes. People on the inside - is it worth 2x the TC? #google #tech
My bad, updated with more detail on the role/team.
Yes. You can stay for a year and go back to your old company if you don't like it.
Take it and double your TC. Plus, the benefits at Google are great.
Really depends on your motivations. I don't think you can expect to keep fully remote, and that's a pretty significant quality of life benefit. Don't know if you'll need to relocate, but cost of living can really eat that TC bump. Having Google on your resume used to be a big deal, I don't know if it still is. I hope so.
Thanks, this is helpful. I won't need to relocate - currently just trying to keep my head above water financially, living in SF with two kids. As I write this I'm realizing that doubling my TC is probably the move.
You should take it 👍🏻 All the Best
Go for it, having Google on your resume will help you in the future.
Googler of ~2 years here. Having worked at both a small and medium sized company before this, Google has been by far the best company I've been at. I think that most people who complain about it have never worked outside of Google. They may be comparing it to the good ol' days of the company, which to be fair, I wasn't there for. But I think the "new" work environment still beats 99% of tech jobs out there.
Super helpful. Thanks anon Googler.
Can you breakdown TC? Base, bonus, rsu, etc. congrats on the offer.
Go for it!
