Holding nearly 450K in cash
Interviewed for staff position but they are offering senior engineer. HR mentioned base would be 175k. I am waiting for the offer letter to get the rest of the numbers. I will be promoted to staff in my current job end of this year and I want to push for staff offer in ARM. YOE: PhD+3 years Location: Austin Any suggestions, recommendations for negotiation? What is the RSU amount I can expect? #hardware #interview #arm
Staff in ARM is Senior Staff in Qualcomm.
Phd with 3 yeo and 175k? They are definitely lowballing you
Absolutely
Staff at arm is > staff at Qualcomm. For phd +3 senior sounds correct
How about base? I heard arm got rid of bonus. How much base I should aim for?
This is a lowball base for sure, prob lower by 25k?
175 is a good starting point for senior you can ask for more, maybe 185-190? Any higher and you will be out of band
Thought G4 offers start at 140k & go up to 180k. You can probably add 5k - 10k more to any old base with the new pay structure.
My thoughts exactly
Arm always does that , offers one level less than they interviewed the candidate for. That is a BIG red flag. You’ll see more when you join.
See more what? Gravity to keep you at lower levels?
I would not hire a PhD +3 years at G5 (Staff) unless the PhD experience was extremely relevant. G4 seems typical for this experience. For reference G2 is a graduate, G3 is an engineer. Don't know about how that stacks up against QC
Let me guess you don’t have a PHD. 6 years ago PHDs were given principal or staff role.
G4 for fresh PhD seems more common these days. Not sure how it payed out in past. Usually with PhD + 3yoe I would offer higher end of senior. Seems crazy that people got PE as a fresh PhD with no work experience, if it was a one off that can make sense (could have done some ground breaking research)
PhD + 3 years experience is considered 3 years experience in ARM. You are even lucky to get Senior in a some scenarios.
Agree. I have seen phd hired at entry level. ARM management can be an arse. If you have phd don’t settle for anything less than staff
Man 8 YOE won't even get you staff in some scenarios. Really down to whether the HM supports it, our layoffs all got Staff and some can't even write a verif plan.

Done.
