I currently work at Amazon as a SDM. Current base is 205k. I got an offer from a startup for 212k. The startup has been around since 2013, cash neutral, their customers include Microsoft, Asana, Bleacher Report, Western Union, etc. I liked the folks I talked to there a lot and there is slot of potential but I’ve never worked at a smaller company before. They have 50 employees. With recent big tech layoffs, seems like no place is safe. Curious what folks think about switching from big tech to smaller company in current economy #engineering #startup #career
OP, convert it to a vote for better response. I vote stay at Amazon. They should have an end goal or exit by now. One cant go long in cash neural like this. What is the point in doing so.
Raised series c but still 50 ppl? Looks like they will stay private forever…unless you are looking for scope change or title change, it won’t pay off
My advice is don’t join a startup that is pre series C unless you truly believe in the mission. Coming from someone who worked at 2 seed and 1 series A, shit can hit the fan quick
I’m not even sure it’s considered a startup now. They did their series c in 2017 and aren’t looking for anymore funding and are cash flow neutral
In normal times that's true. But in current conditions joining pre series A might be actually safer for your job security for some time.
