I am interviewing at booking.com (amsterdam). anyone able to shed any light on levelling and/or associated salary ranges? currently L4 at Uber (bay area) tc $210k
L3 and lower L4 is core level. Upper L4 and L5 is senior level Upper L5 is lead level. L6 is principal level.
So booking only has core < senior < lead < principle?
Yes, well core < senior ~ lead < principal
Transfer to Uber Amsterdam
Don’t do it. Bugs and Perl are not the issue, cronyism is quite high. Promotions are random and reserved for manager’s buddy.
STAY AWAY. I hate my life for being here and I have only been here less than 2 years (and I am a high performer by booking standards so it has nothing to do with performance scores)
How did people get high performance? Become friends with the manager?
That’s one way. Another way to become friends with everyone else so they can give you glowing feedback The third option is to do an amazing job, but that goes to the end of the list.
Stay away from Booking. Likely you can find an English translation of this https://www.volkskrant.nl/cultuur-media/wat-er-aan-de-hand-is-bij-booking-com-je-denkt-bij-een-hip-snel-ict-bedrijf-te-gaan-werken-maar-het-is-een-grote-chaos~b36aa144/.
Don't do it. They use Perl and dinosaur tech. No code review. No proper testing. Anybody can push garbage to production. They don't clean up failed ab tests. Your job will end up fixing bugs everyday.
Perl yes, but we also use Java, go and other languages. No code review: depends on the team. My team used to do it. Anyone can push to production: Yes. And it is a fantastic thing. Don't clean up dead A/B tests: not completely true. My team had 0%, 30 day older stale tests. Your job will be fixing bugs: mmm.. no?
I totally agree with my colleague vdj64688
