I am reading David Goggins book, he talks abt his uncle, I believe, who worked in the Air force. He would dress up in air force uniform twice a week even after retirement because he was goddamn proud of his work. Most of us work in tech, wondering if any of you felt that level of pride in this industry? If so, how do you show it? I have never felt anything close to that level. I used to feel certain pride being in San Francisco, home of countercultural movement, but not at all right now. Work wise, I think if I ran my own company I might feel it.
Yes, I own what I work on. But to that point I do get overly attached.
How's Nintendo?
There’s no pride in big tech. Most people are mercenaries in this environment. Start-ups on the other hand are something a lot of people take pride in.
I dress up as a programmer every day.
Super proud, been aiming for this team at G since highschool lmao
No, but I'm also not proud of the Air Force 😂. It's just about how much Kool-aid you are willing to take
Not in the ‘hey-world-this-is-my-product’ sense, but in the ‘I-own-this-so-it-should-be-as-good-as-possible’ sense.
It depends on the project. No if it's some generic stuff. Yes if it's something that's a first for a country or which ever few engineers in the world have ever done.
What did you do that's a first for a country?
Built a RADAR for atmospheric research. That's all I can say on here.
No, it's just a paycheck to me.
Yeah, same. Just trying to get closer to FIRE.
@OP what does FIRE means?
