I have 100k to invest and I want to get a simple portfolio of investment for 5+ years. What are your suggestions on low fee, medium risk funds to buy?
95% VTSAX global stock 5% VBTLK bonds
25% voo 25% bnd 25% GLD 25% cash rebalance yearly this is known as the permanent portfolio - comes close to the performance of the s&p 500 over the long haul, but without the 50% drawdown that occurs every 7 years or so (and we're due for another one)
I would seriously look at either Betterment or Wealthfront. Their portfolios are mostly Vanguard
Yeah but a direct Vanguard acct is even cheaper. Less fees. Those guys are good but .75% higher fees. They have tax loss harvesting etc but that wasn't the feature OP wanted.
Not 0.75%. 0.25% or even 0.15% for Betterment for accounts over $100,000
AOM or AOA are another possibility. I'm sure there are Vanguard equivalents
I wouldn't go with ETFs, but I would take high quality dividend yielding companies. 5 years dividend can be a lot of money and if you reinvest it it.can be much more. The market is close to all time high and valuation is a stretch now for VOO, or the other funds. Gold made a great move, but will it continue is unknown. IM me privately if you have more questions.
Agreed, market is overvalued right now - historically so. And dividend stocks are some of the most overvalued. I'd wait till after the election to invest your 100k, as if one of the candidates wins (I'll let you guess which one), we're in for a shit storm. You should also consider dollar-cost averaging.
I wouldn't go for dividend stock if young and currently working on a high salary tech job, it will just push your income tax up. I would focus on growth stocks, and then start to switch to more divided yielding as you approach retirement/get retired and have a lower income/tax to pay.
what do you guys think about vfinx?
Real Estate
Google "3 funds portfolio". VTSAX, VTIAX, VBTLX
Wait 6 weeks to do anything. I moved 80% of my 401k to cash 2 weeks ago. Plan to re-invest in late October with election uncertainty dip.
Market timing is probably the biggest mistake investors make.
Even if most agree that market is overvalued, it's impossible to know when a correction will happen. If the correction happens only in 2 years you'll miss out a lot. And even if you're lucky enough to find the timing to get out, you'll need to be lucky again to get back in.
