I have a technical interview coming up for Apple’s Security Engineering & Architecture organization. It’s for a non-engineering position as a security reviewer. Any insight into what to expect for the technical interview compared to a traditional engineering technical interview? #Apple #interview
“Non engineering position as a security reviewer”? Are you joining this toxic team in SEAR where the manager pushes out senior members (11) of her teams to make space for her friends and gain power... They treat reports poorly unless the reports already are friends of the director or of a VP. Moreover, they get crazy when you attempt to discuss with the director. This is a common pattern in most SEAR teams. Such a typical behavior from ex-feds!

Bullying culture.
Is it really that bad? How is the AIS or Infosec team?
Very toxic! Stay away from SEAR teams, especially from the australian mafia and their friends. The org has a culture of being run by frat boys clans, and managers are protected by those clans. Bad managers are nefarious. They disrupt the environment, but HR has no power. HRs asking employees to talk to their toxic managers about their problems is the same as asking a victim to talk to the abuser. They constantly steal your credit for your work because of politics. They put down people who are not in the clan. Managers lack technical knowledge. They can't explain or present technical solutions their reports are working on. Their job is to manage up and do politics. Leadership/HR should act the moment such situations start showing. The consequences are catastrophic (lack of motivation, depressions, anxiety, exodus of senior people leaving, entire team of 6 people leaving, …). Waiting or pretending not to see is a bad call.
If they really want to solve the issue, they would do like facebook and many companies: they would request feedback from all ICs to evaluate a manager. Obviously, they dont want to know the truth or identify the abusers. Manager’s performance should be measured against Team Results, Delegation and Providing Support. How do you evaluate managers so that they become better decision makers, help their team overcome obstacles and stop micromanaging and stealing credit and visibility. Managers strategy is to make individuals/teams fight each other to achieve results and steal whenever possible.
Richard Landsberg at his best!
Stats uncovered widespread bias in this org against minorities and nonnative English speakers. Ppl with nonnative accents, are significantly less likely to be recommended for management positions or promoted internally.
Politics, toxicity, bias and no career in SEAR. Many senior employees are leaving. Run as far away as you can 😛
Senior employees are leaving because they are pushed out. Australians are bringing in more (incompetent) friends
I heard this megalomaniac was finally kicked out! His clan was destroyed. I am glad Apple recognizes abusers and egocentric individuals who think of themselves as invulnerable. SEAR will be a safer and nicer place.

SEAR has a biased hiring process. I hope you have a friend involved in this process to send you the questions prior to the interviews :)
How’s it biased? Just curious
Managers hire their friends, former colleagues, family members,... it is a family business :D
