Dropbox senior SDE offer

I have an offer from Dropbox in SF for senior SDE, I’m level 62 right now in Sunnyvale Microsoft. 20% pay bump, level bump, more interesting work (too political right now) BUT commute time increases from 15 mins each way to 70 and relocation isn’t an option right now. 27 year old male with a girlfriend (we don’t live together). Would you do the painfully longer commute for the career boost? Current TC: ~230K

Depends on your tolerance for an awful commute and how long until you can relocate to SF.

Long commute to SF sucks Don’t do it unless you are willing to relocate as you don’t have any kids school commitments

I’d move if I were you. Heck even a 55 min commute sucks. I’d like to understand why relocation isn’t an option. If it’s due to girlfriend you could both move midway or find a job close to DB?

Much better experience than anything at Microsoft so take it But also plan to move. Once that 70 min commute starts you won’t last long Ask GF to move in with you while you’re at it

No. Go negotiate higher pay. Go for 30%+.

Am trying for higher though

280 TC for senior sounds pretty low. Do negotiate.

Keep in mind the SF office is going to move sometime this year, that will add to your commute. It's very common to WFH a day or two a week though. What's the offer? IC3 or IC4? 20% of that $230 would be $276. That's about right for IC3. It would put you right around the percentile they work from. They don't have much room to negotiate from there.
