https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2023-04-10/apple-s-40-plunge-leads-pc-shipments-down-as-tech-demand-sags "Apple Inc.’s personal computer shipments declined by 40.5% in the first quarter, marking a tough start to the year for PC makers still grappling with a glut of unsold inventory. Shipments by all PC makers combined slumped 29% to 56.9 million units — and fell below the levels of early 2019 — as the demand surge driven by pandemic-era remote work evaporated, according to IDC’s latest report. Among the market leaders, Lenovo Group Ltd. and Dell Technologies Inc. registered drops of more than 30%, while HP Inc. was down 24.2%. No major brand was spared from the slowdown"
Users know there's a lot of apps on Macs not native to Apple Silicone yet. I think there are more waiting for developers to port to the new architecture.
Not really though.
What’s important that’s missing a port?
Might be one reason is people are still happy with M1. Upgrade cycles for mac are slightly higher than others. My last mbp lasted for 7+ years till 2020. It only developed microphone issues after 7 yrs.
How much of Apple's sales are through corporate lease?
I work / worked with most of these products. The large majority of people care about innovation and price. If you lack innovation in areas that a user can see and you price hike, there’s no reason to buy. For example: I have an IPhone 13 Pro. Why the hell would I buy an IPhone 14? Or even a 14 Pro? The island does absolutely nothing for me in the long run other than “seems cool”. Outside of that, I don’t need satellite calling or crash detection.. I’m in a city and my car drives itself. For a Mac device: If I had an intel mac, I would buy an M1 series and not M2. The speed and performance is tiny to but an M2 over an M1 for general usage. General usage is the majority of people. Same goes for all the devices. Why buy a giant Mac when you can get a smaller Air that functionally, powers basically the same? Especially when one is significantly cheaper than the other.. The variety is such ass that it’s hard for anyone to actually choose what they want. Sure, you have options but, the majority of people don’t give a shit and simply want a machine that can a). last them a while and b). cost that is justified by a. Internally, we say this. And they simply don’t care. They think this is an economy where Apple name justifies price hikes and it did when people had money. Now, people don’t. And people simply will wait out an upgrade than the upgrading. Most features these days, even as an employee, I don’t care about or use. I just want things to be simple. I feel that Apple has taken what was simple and attached too many hidden things into them and called it “productive”. In reality, nobody cares. That my friends is why it’s declining and why Apple is struggling to sell inventory.
Don’t forget that the transition to M1/M2 from Intel actually had a LOSS of feature or functionality depending on your use case for software needs. Also you need an m1/m2 MAX if you want to natively display 3 monitors and above 60hz refresh rate. I mean some of it has workarounds and stuff but like you said, we’re already spending all this money so “feelsbadman” that you need to spend wayyy more than before for what you’d consider basic compatibility in any piece of hardware in the industry especially at this price point
Waiting for layoff, my friend said Apple will never layoff.😹
Anyway the M1 and M2 PCs are so far the fastest under 2k laptop i have ever seen. Correct me if i am wrong.
M1 is over any Intel or AMD. M1 is about the same as M2 for general usage. Apple’s great at marketing.
I want to get a M1 MBP if there is discount.
Canary in the economic coal mine
Ppl don’t have enough money and apple macs and other products are one of the most expensive, specially if you have to pay high interest on payments now.
