for new grads interested in infra work, distributed systems/storage, what would be a better company?
They are two of the best companies in the industry. Can’t go wrong with either.
Go to meta. Get promoted to E6 within 4-5 years. Then jump to Databricks. You’ll hate being a junior engineer here at dbx
There is almost 0 chance you get hired as an L6 at Databricks as a E6 at Meta with 4 YOE
I have been in both companies to some extent. Not regarding promos/wlb/pay and stuff, I feel like there's alot higher chance you will interact with distributed systems in databricks. 1. Nature of product (spark) 2. The infra is not as mature so theres alot of work to be done
In other words, meta infra code is currently 5x better than databricks. I’ve worked for both.
True!
GO META
I would highly recommend to go to meta. I have been in both. Your growth prospects are much much higher in Meta. Choose some infra team in meta and you will go in terms of learning as well.
What's even more telling on this poll is how many total brickster vs how many total metamates make up the universe of people who would be biased for/against their company

I seriously think if Rahul Gandhi loses, Indian public is uneducated.
Databricks is growing like crazy, building some of the stuff that interests you from the ground up. Meta has liquid equity
yeah the liquid equity is a slight factor but moreso worried about growth. hear promo is super slow and db whereas if i grind at meta i can definitely get promos and more $
Don’t have insights on that. You will learn a lot more from riding a company up than riding it on the way down. You will need to decide which ones you think have peaked.
