WeWork offer

170k base plus 130k equity (RSU) over three years, NYC.

Is this considered decent/good? I was hoping for senior SWE, but looks like I’m not getting it, possibly because I felt I did worse than expected on the system design round, possibly because I’m coming from a bank, or both.

How is the company itself? I hear both very good and very bad about it both here and on Glassdoor.

WeWork is going to be in serious trouble when the next recession comes. Commercial real estate is a particularly bad business to be in during a downturn, and they have a lot of liabilities on their books.

    • Yup already tried the RSU for cash thing, they said they don’t do it.

Main project I’d be in sounds good enough.

Definitely want to ask about work life balance, as I see some reviews saying that it’s good, but a lot more reviews saying that it’s terrible with very long hours all the time.

Tech-wise, not sure how I feel about Kotlin. Not a language I’m specifically adverse to learning or working with, but not one on my interest list either. Frontend would be React; which I do like and enjoy - I’d actually prefer leaning towards the frontend in this case, but need to ask what the balance is.

Kotlin is the future for Android. Not sure how popular it'll be in backend but it's a fun language

I would say it's a really good company to work with depending on the team. Which team are you on?

    • Real estate.

Really tough to gauge the reputation and prospects of the company...lots of both positive and negative comments all over the place.

On the positive extreme end of the scale, I see it being referenced in the “SLAW” acronym, but at the same time, why wouldn’t a company like, say, Uber be included in there?

How would WeWork look on a resume vs. one of the other companies in that SLAW acronym (or Uber)?

I guess it’s a good offer but I wouldn’t know either. I recently got an offer for 175k and 135k/3 yr. I got that 10k more probably because I had another offer...
