I wanted be a computer engineer since my childhood, I started learning programming since 8th grade, my first programming language was Pascal. I joined amazon year ago and before that worked in multiple tier 2 and 1.5 companies. Before amazon, I never knew what is the toxic culture and shitty team members feels like. In Amazon It felt like a hell. Team members are fighting like a lawyers each day ever min. They just wanted to win the case and make sure you are under the bus. Manager is like a bus driver waiting to start the bus to squeeze your head. I know if I want I can survive but I don't like just fighting for survival each day instead of focusing on actual problem. Anyways I am leaving amazon in one week but the actual issue is I lost that passion and spark of programming and I am really afraid of my next team in new company. I am not sure how to bring back that passion and spark again. How can I be confident? I want to know if anyone of you felt the same way and how did you overcome? Same thing my Ph.D. is doing to me.
Take 1-2 week break. Then, in a few moths on the new job, you’ll remember that as a bad dream.
In same boat. Assholes all around.
How do you motivate yourself to prepare during these times ? I feel the same way :(( And are there companies you can apply to where you are most likely to get a job just to see the a ray of hope
I didn't prepare, I just gave interviews based on my previous preparation and took what ever first offer I got that's the reason I am going with 25k less tc
Sorry to hear that mate, good luck with your new job. Not all companies/teams have toxic culture. Hope you land in a good place
👍😊
It will only get better friend, head up
Same man, same
You and I have the same experience and judging on the post also very similar background - I too aspired to become a programmer, learned Pascal in school and have similar feelings about my experince at Amazon. As time has passed negativity faded away but you reminded me that :) Don't worry - find a good company with decent WLB - in WA it could be Indeed, Splunk, some teams in Microsoft, Oracle and Google - after a year of working in a stress free environment you'll recover. Don't kill yourself with regrets, you'll do fine if you learn a lesson from it: do some research on what company feels inside and try to understand really well the manager and the team you're planning to join. Aside from excitement from passing interview bar you should ask to arrange couple informal conversations with the manager and some dev from the team you're planning to join. That's the best advice I can give. Good luck!
Thanks a lot for advice :)
Not all teams are equal, dm me if you want to change teams in Amazon
Yes true, there are sister teams where people are really nice. But there was no openings in that. I am already on notice now. But thank u so much for offering me chance in your team :)
