I am working in Finance for one of the big banks in NY, I joined almost two years ago. Despite being a big bank, the firm has no leadership and vision at the top. There is no succession planning for the leadership team. This place does not have any system in place to the get information for your work. Every day is like multiple fire drills. There is also a lot of uncertainty with the firm. On top of it, my manager has created a very hostile and toxic environment, which is just unbearable. I am not in Investment Banking (IB) but I am still putting in 60-80 hours a week with my manager demanding more. There is no work-life balance. I want to go to HR on how he treats the team but I know it won’t lead to right results. I am always a calm person but this behavior has led to a lot of anxiety and stress. I have reached that level where under any other situation, I would have quit to look for another job, however, I am on H1b and do not want to start my 60-day clock to find another job. I have 18 YoE with the last 12 years in finance and rest in Tech Consulting. I have an MBA from one of the top schools in the US with and also a CFA Charterholder. Right out of b-school, I worked for a small PE firm working on deals in Tech, Media and Telecom. I also had operating roles in portfolio companies along with being a key member of the leadership team for 5 years. After the PE role, I moved to a big bank in strategic finance role launching new products such as Buy Now Pay Later. The move was driven more by family need where I needed to take care of my wife since my work involved a lot of international travel (80% -100%% travel). Two years ago I changed my job to join the current firm. I have two young kids (both are below 6 yrs old), my wife is also looking for an opportunity in HR, but there aren’t many opportunities. I understand 4Q is always a slow quarter in terms of hiring and hoping that things will pick up in Jan/Feb. I would really appreciate any advice and/or help that you could provide. I am open to any other location and other industry. Total Comp 228k, base 215k, bonus 13k #NeedHelp #H1b #needadvice #needreferral #finance #fpa #corpfinance
Jp Morgan has low pay , but job stability
I had to move from JPMorgan, even after promotion they wouldnt give $150k (bonus is non existent and very discretionary) at Director level in NY
“How he treats the team?” Any chance you can be more specific? When you say “hostile [work] environment”, that’s a legal term and you should look into an employment lawyer if it’s true.
He constantly shouts at people, if there is a new joinee then instead of grooming him/her and setting that person up for success. He constantly finds fault with their work without appreciating what they do. He accuses the team first even he is at fault. If someone points out his mistake then he is not apologetic about the mistake. Someone is working long hours instead of appreciating the work constantly making them feel bad about themselves. In addition, I have seen ask the team to send reports on the weekends that no one uses. He is constantly ridiculing them. The other day a junior team member from another team asked him to reschedule a meeting and he was complaining to me that I am so senior person how can this stupid person ask me to reschedule it. There are traits that you know are not right.
Dang banks pay like 💩
18 YOE and the pay is that low!?
Kinda sketchy, you have poor English and low TC. My guess is former WITCH and now some low level tech job at Chase. Not sure why you’re flexing your grad school or PE experience when you’re having to turn to Blind and ask strangers for a job, you don’t have a network after 18 years of experience?
What’s witch ?
After a brief search, WITCH = Women's International Terrorist Conspiracy from Hell
What’s your title currently and do you manage a team?
Wow that's pretty low TC for your YoE. Can you work with a recruiter?
Probably 4Q end is not the right time, but yes thats something that i am also thinking about.
