Working at Google doesn't necessarily mean a ton, but there's a certain brand cache that you want to maintain (think Meta, Apple, Airbnb, Jane Street, etc.). Where does Datadog fall into this, if at all? Would it be a career downgrade? I spoke with a recruiter and it was a really great experience. It just seemed incredibly non-corporate in the best way while also having scale and impact. And how does compensation work there? This would be for a senior role. Thanks!
who cares, what is comp
Yeah this would be likely the important question - if it's a significant bump, then why not?
I don’t think datadog is a lateral move … it’s a clear step down
Meh, for recruiter's and new grads the shiny brand is attractive. For an HM, its more about what you delivered, both complexity and revenue impact. For you it should be about current TC, future TC and scope for even more TC. Impact, prestige, brand, these don't pay bills.
Recruiters opinions matter, getting that interview is often the toughest part. I couldn’t get Google to talk to me until I had Apple on my resume.
A referral or networking can take care of that.
Weird behavior. Do you like the comp, work and environment? If so move, tf cares about “brand”?
I think it’s important to have a story to your career, and brand cache is part of that. It seems shallow but it’s only shallow in the same way networking and reputation is.
you already have Google, you don't need more prestige dude
who the fuck is datadog…
who the fk is IHS Markit?
😀
Doesn’t matter is the TC higher and is there a level bump
My data dog recruiter is super chill, but I noticed he likes a suspiciously high amount of thirst traps on LinkedIn
there are thirst traps on LinkedIn?
Not the level of like insta ones butyea just pics of them doing nothing in particular except looking hot, so pushing the borders of work appropriate. I didn't know those existed either until LinkedIn kept showing that he liked one every other day 🤣
Oh same boat. What level are you going for?

For those responding lateral, would you consider Meta, etc lateral or up?
About the same. What do you think?
I'd say without any evidence and from pure feelings and picking examples randomly that Meta, Apple, and Netflix are slightly up. Jane Street and HRT are definitely up. Amazon, Microsoft, and Uber are slightly down. Airbnb and Snap are lateral.
