Depressed at Amazon
I started exactly a year ago. Great company brand name and great TC compared to my last non fang company. I learnt a lot in my first year, but i hate the culture of toxicity here. Crs coming after midnight, coworkers working and sending emails on weekends even on thanksgiving and Christmas holidays. Everybody competing and working 70+ hrs a week. High attrition causing people to leave in the name of “day 1” culture, and people with less than six month Amazon experience expected to lead in the name of “ownership”. People complaining and fighting in meetings, emails and on crs in the guise of “disagree and commit”. Also horrible oncall in many teams with atleast 2-3 sev 2 per week. When i finally got in last year after 4 rejections at other faang companies, i really wanted to settle down here. I have job hopped a lot in my career and never stayed for more than 2 years at a company. And when i got in at Amazon i didnt even thought ill be thinking of leetcoding just after a year. Im 30+ and cant compete with fresh out of college starry eyes graduates who put in 70 hours a week. I have a wife and 8 month son and cant bear a sev 2 at 3 am in morning. Im sick of the culture here. I want a place with great work life balance. I know now Amazon is not one for wlb. I know there are other teams within Amazon which might be better but im not located in Seattle and my place only have a few teams and from what i have heard this culture is Amazon wide. I really want to stay. Atleast for 3 more years, but every month i feel more depressed. Sorry for the rant, but very depressed
Are you good with your boss? What makes you think you have to compete with the kids? PS I do think Seattle would be a better bet due to the sheer number of available teams compared to elsewhere.
Did you say great WLB? Come to Intel. Though cut your current TC in half. Btw TC? I won't tell you to GTFO of your own thread. TC or WLB, usually pick just one, unless Google picks you.

Yeah, which org and which location? I am eager to learn as well. So many horrific Amazon stories and I am seriously considering an offer from amazon right now.
How much increase in the TC and the role? If its not over 30%, dont bother
If you are married and have more than 8 years experience, you will not like here. This is a sweat shop. Stay away
Switch teams, but watch out, a couple of sev 2s a week is a dream in some parts of AWS.
OP looks like Amazon may even have low balled you on TC? I make a bit more with a bit less yoe. Never job hopped. Work 30 hours a week. Just a data point for you. I hope you find a way out.
Sounds a bit like Facebook except more pay, perks and everyone is (pretends to be) nice.
I was exactly on the same boat and i finally was put in PIVOT after one year and eight month so i quit and got the severance package.
Not every team is like this. Have you considered moving internally?
