Should we require immigrants to settle all over the USA instead of concentrating in a few places?

There are 3007 counties in the United States. Today almost all h1b, greencard, and other employment visa applications target jobs in only a handful of counties, such as Santa Clara county CA, San Francisco city and county, and King county WA. This slows the assimilation of immigrants who surround themselves with workplaces and communities with only other immigrants from the same country, and their kids wind up in schools with only other immigrant children. There's lots of talk of removing the country cap on i485 greencard applications, which would alleviate a great unfairness but likely worsen the problem of immigrants failing to assimilate. So here's a proposal: 1. Remove caps on where people can come from 2. Implement caps on where they can go Specifically limit the number of visas that can be issued to a single county (not country) in a year. Perhaps to no more than 1 percent of the total visas issued per county. This would require immigrants to settle all over the United States instead of crowding into ghettos (however be affluent) where they fail to Americanize. It would also spread the economic benefits of immigration to more parts of the country. After immigrants became citizens or permanent residents they would be able to move wherever they wanted, but they would start out for the first 3 to 5 years while on work visas settling in different places around the country and hopefully then making a permanent home there.

Immigrant communities also provide a support network for the FOBs. How are you going to replace that? It can be slow for some immigrants, but don’t the children usually assimilate well?

H1b's have the support of their company so I don't think it's a problem.

No, you want the immigrants were the jobs are, which is where they go. Nothing worse for white nationalism than to have poor unemployed immigrants competing with locals in the middle of nowhere

They won't get (or keep) work visas if there isn't a job. Once they have greencards they can go where they like, but hopefully after 3 to 5 years many decide they like it where they are.

It's not about having a job when you get in, is about how desperate you are too keep it when things go south. People need to go where the opportunities are

This will automatically select out the immigrants coming here for high paying jobs, which tend to be clustered in immigrant hot spots. A better way would be to force companies to stop concentrating in a few select metros like the bay area. Distribute jobs widely and that's where people will go.

Amazon gameday OP Sep 3, 2018

This will accomplish that. And we shouldn't really base national policy on the needs of a single industry (tech). Arguably tech monopolizing the work visas is a problem.l, starving other industries of access to international talent.

I agree American companies rely heavily in immigration to remain competitive, but do you really think they are so dependent that they would distribute their operations widely just to get immigrants? They might just shift operations overseas...

I know Canada does that... sometimes they are ready to give permanent residence quickly if u belong to particular profession and if u are ready to work in some northern provinces

People that think bribery and corruption are somehow "bred" into Indians and that they corner the market on them dont know much about US history. Especially the history of NYC and CHI.

Amazon sockeye Sep 4, 2018

Socialized in maybe, not bred. And can be deprogrammed by moving to the US and learning new ways lol

Many already get their start in the US in masters programs in the middle of nowhere.
