Considering my final internship and am in team matching for Nuro and Aurora wants to schedule the final on-site with me for a specific team. I am hoping to convert my internship to full-time. Nuro has higher comp on paper and seems like it has really smart people but Aurora is already going public through SPAC and also has really good leadership. Which would be better for career growth/long term comp? I ideally want to be in the Bay or NYC after graduation for the startup scene and Aurora is matching me for Boulder/Pittsburg right now but I know Aurora has a Mountain View/SF office. Here are the supposed compensation numbers from Discord: Aurora doesn’t negotiate and Nuro doesn’t negotiate base + stocks, just the signing bonus increasing from 30k to 40k. Company/Industry: Nuro Title: Software Engineer Date of Offer: October 2021 Location: San Francisco Salary: $146k/year Stock/Recurring Bonuses: 12% annual perf bonus, 230k/4 year RSU Relocation/Signing Bonus: 30k signing Total Compensation: 251k first year, 221k recurring Company: Aurora Job Title: SWE I (Intern conversion) Location: Pittsburgh, PA Base: 125k Bonus: 12.5% Sign-on: 25k Stock: ~100k / 4 years Relocation: 3700 TC: $195k (first year), $166k recurring Non negotiable #Nuro #Aurora
Nuro
Out of all the companies in self-driving would you say only Waymo might be better to join as a new grad than Nuro?
I've never worked at any other AV company, just based on what I hear (we have a lot of people from all these places). Hear good things about nuro.
Interesting, suddenly like 15 people voted for Aurora and only 2 for Nuro without leaving any comments
Avoid Cruise at all costs, worst company I worked for.
Is the entire company bad? I heard only specific teams might have issues
For those TCs you could buy a nice house in Pittsburgh or rent a small apartment in SF...
I might have to make this same decision as well soon, so thanks for finding data on Aurora NG I had a hard time finding that. One thing to keep in mind is Aurora is going public this week whereas Nuro stock is functionally paper money right now since you can't even sell it on private markets.
I know a few people who went from Aurora to Waymo in less than 2 years
A large part of this is where people were placed after the merger. Not everyone ended up in new roles they wanted. Those that left had very individual reasons imo. Plus, Waymo just moved an office to Pittsburgh which contributed.
