Stripe vs Adyen

I'm considering senior manager roles at Stripe and Adyen - can anyone share feedback about product culture in either org? I'm good with RTO/in person work, but wondering about collaboration between engineering and product, how the product lifecycle is managed, how dependencies are tracked, and (very importantly) how global each team is? In other words, should I resign myself to 4x a week 10pm calls and 8am calls wherever I go, or could I expect to have a life outside of work somewhere else? TC: 340K

I would say Adyen is very sales-driven so be prepared for that.

Assuming you’re US based, talking for Adyen, expect 8am calls often bc our hq is in AMS. But overall wlb is amazing, actually I’d say things are frustratingly slow. We have quite a bit of folks came from paypal/braintree. For your other questions, really depends on the team. Some are matured, some are not at all. TC @ Stripe is probably higher tho

Product growth at Adyen is extremely limited lately. There are many products at Adyen and each team does things differently but ultimately Amsterdam leads the way for how products should be built even if they don’t fully understand the US market. Be prepared to work very early hours to have some time for meetings with Amsterdam if you want your decisions to have some weight. The good thing is that if you start this early, most days you also finish relatively early. If you are US-based, you will most likely need to relocate to Chicago since Adyen has decided the different product teams will not be growing in San Francisco anymore and all new hires for Product and Engineering will be based in Chicago now.

Interesting, I thought the 2023 annual event messaging was that other tech hubs and regional offices should have more say in how things get built out across different streams? What's the point of Chicago, Madrid & ++ tech hubs if they're only gonna work as per AMS orders? FWIW - growth in product functions at Adyen is largely based on personal relationships with product leaders and not actual outcomes.
