Since most of the people on this app are younger, this may be hard to believe but we have been in an unusually strong economy. It has gotten so strong that these less experienced job seekers have concluded that demand for their skills will always stay strong, but the glaring reality is that in some fields, the situation is the opposite where there are more people out there than available positions. Though I personally started my career on the technical side (IT / professional services / SWE), I switched to the business side thinking that it would be more interesting / exciting. In the beginning, I was fortunate to have been given a chance to grow, but over the years I decided to take a chance and worked with some companies that really didn't understand how to properly bring their products to market, often laying people like me off when the economy started to soften. Instead of taking the hint that I should return to the technical side, I doubled down on the business side and got some short term assignments to keep me going, but nothing permanent. I am now at the point where I am competing against less experienced people than me and despite being the better candidate, I can't get them and I just don't understand why. I am at the point where I personally would be happy with a Senior IC level role just so I can move forward, but just can't seem to get conversations started because these companies have already concluded that you need to be a "domain expert" which really isn't the case. In fact in the time that they waste interviewing/rejecting those candidates, they could have hired me and I could have helped them. It's short sighted and very depressing to say the least. Last week I asked for help to get into Qualtrics -- there are three product marketing jobs that look very interesting and ones where I know I can do well, but I need some help to at least get noticed. I am hoping that someone out there can empathize with my situation and help me with a referral to their company so I can move forward in life. I'm not asking for charity here -- just a chance to be able to be in a field that I truly have grown to love but just can't seem to move forward with. If you happen to work at a company that needs help bringing their products to market (e.g. senior product marketing manager, director product marketing, etc.), I'd love to talk with you. When checking out opportunities on line I saw companies like - Qualtrics - Mattermost - ServiceNow - Adobe - Figma - Canva and many others looking for people with my background, but without a referral I will never get a chance to speak with anyone because I made those bad bets. Can someone please help me get into a good company so I can move forward? If you have any questions, please ask.
Not sure if Twilio has what you’re looking for, but if you find a position, dm me!
Thanks. You already referred me for one position, but if I see others, I will let you now.
DM for ServiceNow
I ran out of DMs. Can you DM me?
I may be frustrated and depressed by my situation, but I'm not stupid or gullible. Why would I pay anything to a site that has zero accountability? At least the people on here have connections to those companies. Hope the others on here aren't gullible either.
