I am currently interviewing for an Analytics Engineer role at Spotify and was reading through the reviews. I saw some recurring complaints and was curious what they meant: - Poor career growth. Is this that promotions were hard to get, or that understanding how to get them is hard? I would like to be a manager at some point; would a move like that difficult? - Lazy coworkers. Is lazy that they don’t do work? To do it well? Or that don’t have any desire to improve things or challenge the status quo? Also, are these things true for all teams not just software engineering teams? Finally, a general cultural question—are people social outside of work in the NY area? Do other teams interact in the office? How lively is the office?
What's your current yoe?
8, 3 as an analyst and 5 as a software engineer
When is Spotify hi-fi they announced it almost a year or so ago and still nothing.
I think it depends on the teams. My coworkers are not lazy at all but overall process is very slow (and it's acceptable). My team hang out for lunch or happy hour but very rare. People talk a lot in Slack. Lots of (imo) company events so people meet anyway once in a while. Some who's been here for a while have more close relationship though. Not sure about career growth since I'm still new.
It depends on the team. My team members are so diligent that I can hardly get promoted
Is the work interesting at Spotify ?
Well it’s not bad, never lacks new projects but I won’t call it interesting
