I joined this startup 6 months ago, they were about 8 months old at that time and trying to sell and get POCs. they told me they had all these big companies dying to use their product (goldman, dropbox, etc). I start and then find out product doesnt do all they say it can and no one ended up buying the product. they hired me as their first sales hire and I get a bonus tied to revenue but no one is buying and on top of it they lowered pricing a good 3-5x rather than focus on building a product people want they want to get paid POCs for something half ass as they continue to build out their product. I find this strategy weak. what are your thoughts? I think company may fail because they arent being smart about go to market. no trolls.
Lol at dying to use the product
Their GTM is ship a shitty product and hope no one will notice? ⚰️
No offense but, that is why a thorough evaluation of what a startup is trying to do is very important. I understand most of the times it’s not very easy to evaluate but, reaching out to folks who are in that specific industry will definitely help. I evaluate products for a living and I have seen a ton of these startups do their sales pitch to me and I’ve learned to separate the truly worth ones from the BS.
Haha another startup that lies... can you expect anything less
Huge risks at being the first sales hire, and this is why. Idk what your compensation structure is like, but if you need to walk, walk. There are tons of budding saas companies that are paying handsomely on great selling products
Walk. The product is trash and the team even more so if they put this much time and money into a product that no one wants to buy.
Normally I tend to say stick with start ups because there are times of good and bad. But in this case I would leave. to have a sales based job with a bad product is a BAD deal. Time is money and you arent getting it there
I am in a quite similar situation. I a first sales hire in my country, the company is US based, the product is 30% off from the pitch and they're currently ran out of fund for couple months. Should I stick with them or should I wait and not lose the back payment ?
Start looking esp if they don’t have funds
Damn I was going to troll but you said no trolls. A troll’s biggest weakness
