Hi my fellow blinders. After an episode of layoffs, I was informed by Deloitte that they have suspended my PERM recruitment process and have implemented a firm wide pause on new PERMs. My understanding is that per USCIS rules, a company cannot file for new PERMs at-least 6 months after the last person is laid off. The reason being that you can’t justify hiring foreign workers when you’re laying off locals. With only two year remaining on my H1B max out, the lawyers have mentioned that they can get me to the PERM filing stage by the end of that period. However, it all depends on when the firm stops laying people off so it can resume initiating new PERMs. Can you advise whether I should stick around and try my luck with Deloitte or find another employer who agrees to filing my GC asap. FYI I understand that all major tech firms that have performed layoffs have also implemented this pause. #perm #layoff #greencard #recession
Try any consulting firm like kforce etc. currently, perm is taking approx 1.5 yr.
You mean including PWD right?
You could have applied for Canada open work permit. But it just got filled up.
I actually did apply for that. How did you find out that it got filled up?
Get out of Deloitte
Makes sense, there is lot of US workforce that needs to be reabsorbed.
I’m in same boat as you!!
Do you have any recent updates on when Deloitte will resume PERM processing?
Ask Deloitte to start PWD. PWD took 12 months for me. It’s a little better now and around 8 months. Switching to another employer will delay starting the pwd process since h1b transfer plus interviewing takes time (unless new company does batch PWDs) If you start your PWD right now you still have time for your PERM
