What was the best and worst WFH equipment, meal plans, etc. you used?

Now that we've all been WFH for over a year, let's get some honest reviews and recommendations on what has stood the test of time. What furniture, peripherals, printers, stationery, meal plans, etc. have been great or horrible for you? For me, here's the list of good stuff: - Ergonomic vertical mouse (mine is from kensington, but there are many near-identical models) - didn't notice a huge difference while using it, but after trying my old mouse again, it's clear that it takes off a lot of pressure - Huion graphics tablet - good for digital whiteboarding - leuchtturm1917 notebook - got into bullet journaling, and it has been super helpful for organizing my thoughts and prioritizing work - Mildliner highlighters - thought these were kinda girly at first, but now that I'm used to them, I can't stand those awful neon highlighters anymore And bad stuff: - Ikea office chairs. Probably going to shell out for a better chair... - Fountain pens - I don't know why I ever thought this was going to be a good idea. It's messy and finicky and requires more maintenance than I want to put in. - Hello fresh - disgusting - Blue apron - overpriced and not that good What about you? What were the best and worst things you tried during WFH?

I really enjoy hello fresh. Overpriced but works. What cuisine do you usually eat?

Capital One new intern OP Jun 30, 2021

I eat normal American stuff, and my coworkers also got me into the habit of eating a lot of Indian and Chinese. Tried a variety of the hello fresh meals, but didn't like any of them. More power to you if it works for you though.

Hello fresh just seemed like simple, bland, basic meals when I tried it. Blue apron was definitely far more involved and interesting dishes.

mx master mouse + mx keys keyboard + ultrawide monitor = sex

Capital One new intern OP Jun 30, 2021

What kind of switches? Also, does windowing get annoying with an ultrawide? I tried one for a while at work, but found I was always doing left/right split screens, so I couldn't justify buying my own. Just got two smaller monitors instead.

+1 on the monitor

Amazon dags Jun 30, 2021

Good: Dell 38” ultrawide monitor Bose NC700 headphones Standing desk with huge IKEA wood kitchen slab Small portable 7x11 whiteboard from Target Power naps after lunchtime Bad: Blue Yeti mic (so sensitive it can clearly pick up your own farts in a meeting) Crappy webcam should probably upgrade Connecting video game console to work monitor (decreases productivity immensely)

Capital One new intern OP Jun 30, 2021

Nice, have the same desk setup. Not in love with the frame I bought off Amazon though, but it works. What do you use the whiteboard for? I've personally found I love the idea of having a whiteboard, but then never actually use it in practice. And yeah the large diaphragm condenser mics will pic up everything haha

Amazon dags Jun 30, 2021

Whiteboard is handy for system designing over webcam, but I mostly just use it for Leetcode practice

Sorry but I lost you at fountain pens.

Capital One new intern OP Jun 30, 2021

Haha I know plenty of people love them, but it's just not for me.

I'd keep a Rubik's cube handy, it helps relieve stress and my hands and wrists get exercise. My favorite WFH hack is having a mirror background for my video calls. Makes people think they are in a matrix and they hang up quickly. 🌝

Amazon wawY45 Jun 30, 2021

I miss an IKEA chair that they've discontinued. Was the best chair I've ever had, also only $40.

Capital One new intern OP Jun 30, 2021

Yeah, I used to have a cheaper ikea chair that I actually really liked, which is why I got another one now, but its just not the same. Couldn't find the old model either.

Amazon wawY45 Jun 30, 2021

Was it the same one, by any chance? http://web.archive.org/web/20210701025108/http://www.ihis.info/wp-content/uploads/2018/07/ikea-chair-office-wonderful-on-furniture-with-regard-to-chairs-singapore-24.jpg It had a mesh for back support on a zip-tie; I think they originally had them just in black, but then started having it with some sort of a flower design as in the picture above. Somehow managed to find the design just now, but can't find the name!

Laptop stand. Went so long using my old thick OReily books

Capital One new intern OP Jun 30, 2021

Oh yeah that's a good one. Laptop stand was really useful for me too. Freed up a lot of desk space.

Amazon erdftgth Jun 30, 2021

+1 on hello fresh. It is disgusting

Capital One new intern OP Jun 30, 2021

Right!?! Everything has a weird aftertaste, and somehow it's the same on every single dish.

NVIDIA askmenot Jul 1, 2021

@new intern. I don't like hello fresh either but if you're getting an aftertaste, that's probably from your cooking setup.

Was the tablet like an iPad or a drawing tablet that you hook up to your computer? Also, what did you use the mobile power bank for while WFH?

LinkedIn Sistah Jun 30, 2021

No a mid-range android tablet. Don't had any specific use of power bank right now but I wanted a new one since my old one was malfunctioning

Bottomline yWYa76 Jun 30, 2021

Highback chair, LG ultrafine 5k Mac monitor, standing desk, led strip lights and a small day bed in the room for power naps and to relax my back. My fav is the monitor. It's like a giant Mac screen

Capital One new intern OP Jun 30, 2021

Nice. Been thinking of getting a daybed, but I know I would just spend all day in it haha

PFSweb, Inc. taxEvasion Jun 30, 2021

- Fully Jarvis 60" standing / sitting desk. I stand and sit all the time. - Herman Miller Aeron, honestly after having the standing desk I think a good chair loses its value, because you can just stand when you get tired of sitting. I don't know if this was worth it but it's good. - Logitech Wireless Ergonomic Keyboard & Vertical Mouse. This is by far one of the best tools. My gaming keyboard and mouse were just getting uncomfortable. - A framed and mounted whiteboard. Mounting is key because there's no hunching over or any preparation needed to start whiteboarding. - Redbull Summer Edition, it tastes great and keeps me caffeinated.

Capital One new intern OP Jun 30, 2021

Very nice. Personally not a fan of red bull, but everything else sounds great.
