Lay offs at ancestry

Not sure if the blind community is aware of the lay offs that happened at ancestry last week after black stone acquired the company and decided to discontinue ancestry health product which impacted the total health org. I am one among the 77 to have been impacted by the RIF. To the HRs or hiring managers out here, if you find anyone from ancestry pinging you via LinkedIn asking for a referral or opportunity to be interviewed at your company, I request you to help them. Thank you all.

Curious - how will ancestry grow without investing more in health info?

As a former employee, ancestry is done. Their revenue is very volatile. So much dependent upon dna kit sales. Comp is lower so many ppl there sucks as hell.

23 and me is the winner.

So sorry to hear that. We used to live in Utah and have several friends still at Ancestry, although a few were impacted by last February's layoffs. Things seems to have changed when the company went public, then private, then private equity and the leadership became California based.

Both Ancestry and 23&Me are in a bad shape. The real reason - recreational genomics is no longer a sellable commodity. Covid made it worse. People simply don't have the money to throw at dispensable things.

Very true!

What is interesting is that Quest Diagnostics now wants to market the same product that Ancestry got rid of, and is bringing onboard laid-off Ancestry staff. Where is common sense in that? Sounds like some Ancestry staff even accepted the job offers with Quest Diagnostics.
