Hello there, 25 y.o., Currently working as a Data Scientist in Oliver Wyman (making data products for banks, like the Probability of the Default). I want to transition into the financial markets industry, namely being a DS-quant in a hedge fund. Is my experience in OW relevant at all for a career in financial markets? Or is it better not to waste time there and just get a top finance degree or more relevant employment experience? I am currently working in another startup as well and leading a side-project connected with using DS in stock markets. So money is not an issue, but time is. But on the other hand, Oliver Wyman is a very prominent and prestigious company, and banks are kind of related to finance markets. #quant #datascience
Sounds like your equivalent of a middle office - risk tech guy. Your best bet would be CFA AND CQF and double down on c++ get into a credit focussed HF that way. Maybe like a Jane St.
Yeah, your in a good place. Your should intentionally try to make an effort to start building reputation and relationships with your clients so that when it's time to exit you have options.
