Getting into Deloitte

Just wondering what's best way of getting job at Deloitte. Are they looking for Ivy league education or big brands if from industry? Does applying online give same chance of landing interviews vs internal referral? How does it work if same role posted in multiple locations and each office so different? Appreciate any input. Thank you!

This is in their Advisory practice/Controllership implementing RPA with 80%traveling. Job is posted for 12 major cities and I see very little interest on LinkedIn. Any insight - can i apply to same role in multiple locations?

Deloitte Blaq Gai Nov 5, 2019

Apply for the 1 role and they'll ask you where you wanna go If you're a US citizen, PM and I'll refer u . I could do with referral cash

Appreciate the reply but I'm not a USA citizen, is that deal breaker?

Deloitte SCX15 Nov 6, 2019

D is laying off people like crazy, but feel free to DM me, and I can refer you over.

Thanks - where is the layoff happening? Which office and practice?

Deloitte Fnbd34e Nov 6, 2019

Internal ref is better than through online. Esp if they contact someone from the hiring group. That said hiring is slow right now

Is it firm wide or just specific office and practice that is slow?

Deloitte Fnbd34e Nov 6, 2019

Many practices are slow so it's fairly firm wide. There is hiring happening though.

I'd keep consulting in mind. There may be a broader array of opportunities that you're interested in there than in advisory. With that said, I've had a great time in Deloitte consulting. Lucky enough to end up with a good senior manager in GPS, so WLB is good, yet the work is intellectually stimulating and extremely impactful, though I'm paid quite a bit less than my commercial peers. Your time here will very much depend on your project, skills, and network.

Thanks, I'm interested in RPA but I'm confused whether it is in Consulting or Advisory.

Deloitte GWKt64 Nov 6, 2019

I do think it's in both. I know consulting has an RPA practice, primarily within Strategy And Analytics, Analytics and Cognitive (this is a talent group of personnel). IDK about what ops are in advisory, but I think they do some work with that. Consulting is the firm of Deloitte that does everything consulting, so it's very broad, from IT implementation and data science to strategy, with RPA work included. Deloitte Advisory is the firm that tends to have a flavor as something halfway in between audit and consulting. Hard to explain, since I don't work in it, but from the people I've met, it shows in the people they hire and the work they do. It's two different firms that do different things, but RPA is a skill that likely has a place in both .

Haha y'all are scaring me, that why I see so few interests on LinkedIn to their job posts?

Deloitte Makiavelli Nov 6, 2019

consulting is a separate LLP (think different company). you will not get in from audit/advisory/tax whatever. The real RPA work is in Consulting/S&A/A&C as somebody else said, and if you do get into S&A getting RPA work should be easy cause nobody in A&C wants to do it (source: I’m in A&C). The other people complaining are likely working out of a delivery center, not client facing, doing low level implementations, or are in some shitty group. I made six figures at D as an Analyst working with my FAANG client jr execs one-on-one. Worked ~60hrs/week, if that’s a lot for you then dont be a consultant. Period.

Why nobody wants to do it?

Deloitte Makiavelli Nov 6, 2019

Because its not interesting. We’d rather be doing data strategy or data science work.
