What's your take on the future of Groupon? A recruiter pinged me for an engineering manager role. Told me about a brand new leadership team and the focus on mobile app. Worth pursuing? Would love to hear about the culture and the morale.
LOL GROUPOn?!!
Same as blue apron. Dead.
I'm not dead. You all have been saying the same for years and we are still here. We are paid pretty competitively and we have fun in the office. We use modern technologies and every Eng gets money to spend on training. Unlimited PTO and a lot of other benefits. Where do you work btw?
šššš
Groupon is still around in 2019?
Yes. Just like your freaking internet explorer.
Are they still around? What value they bring though? I think Credit card offers have already replaced them.
Some random premined shitcoin was going to buy Groupon but the deal fell through.
Groupon is fine, the pay is okay, the people are generally kind and smart, some of the tech problems are interesting due to scale. It is not growing though so your ability to move upward will be limited.
You won't be disappointed, the mobile director is probably one of the best senior leaders out there in the industry.
Lol. I really wonder how anyone can say that. Since the director got hired, the mobile teams are in disarray, SC teams have been left to a slow death, all interesting stuff has been blocked and all talented developers are left. The mobile teams are a crab nest where loyalty is only criteria to stay, get promoted or enjoy some freedom. Nothing good happened and ass licking is the only way to move forward. Incompetence is the rule and the director has not even the beginning of any trust towards technical expertise. Good luck !
Mobile in Chicago is a good place to be. It's not the current director's fault that the CTO (who is gone now) froze hiring, blocked backfill in SC and drove engineering into the ground. There is a good opportunity to build a new team in Chicago, especially given the fewer number of mobile opportunities. Not sure who pissed in this person's cheerios this morning
That seems to be very different than my experience with your mobile director. I have worked with him together for a few years and he is one of the very few leaders that makes you wow, and a lot of people who have worked with him share the same feeling. I think what you have mentioned is more from company strategic point of view that we are trying to move our hub back to Chicago and that's not your director's fault. There are a lot of things in play for this decision.
You are probably the mobile director yourself who has come out to praise himself so much.
I doubt you have worked directly with him, otherwise you won't get this kind of feeling :) I don't know why you got this impression but I'm no longer with Groupon.
Let me translate for you. Brand new leadership team = previous leaders dug a hole they couldnāt get out of and now itās your mess to deal with
Yup. Iām enjoying the experience Iām getting here, but itās clear that old leaders have failed us. That isnāt necessarily a bad thing, pay is competitive-ish, unlimited PTO, and great work life balance.
