Capital One or Amazon

Hi, today I received a new grad offer from Amazon, but I already accepted an offer from Capital One a while ago for their TDP program. I interned at Capital One over the summer, so I had a short deadline to accept the return offer with and Amazon's process took a while. C1 is offering 113k, 15k sign on. Amazon is offering 128k, 30k sign on first year and 26k second year. They're both in San Francisco. Should I renege? Can I renege? I liked the WLB when I interned at C1, and I hear a lot of mixed reviews about Amazon, but there's a clear difference in comp. I don't know if it'll be remotely acceptable to renege now in any case, but any input would be appreciated.

reneg and go to amazon no competition

Come on, how can you compare Amazon with Capital One. I know Amazon has a terrible WLB, but you're a new grad, and you shouldn't be bothered by it unless you have a family of your own. Work at Amazon for around 1.5 years, after which any company would be happy to interview you. Capital one ? No one cares. Also, at Amazon you'll have so many opportunities and problems to solve that Capital One has not even seen in its entire history.

I find it odd that so many non Amazon people talk about WLB being shit... I have worked here for 7 years, never once been on a team where I worked more than 40 hours, and the one time I was on a team with "on call", any work I did "after hours" became TOIL later. Yes, some teams are shit managers with shit reputation. But there are good teams as well. Just like any big company.

You know that it depends on the team. I have few friends in teams Where wlb is pretty good, but most of my friends work 9+ hours everyday. And take the example of president day, there was holiday at Microsoft, Google, and FB, but not Amazon. Common man, who you're kidding. You can be a special case, but we're talking about the general wlb at Amazon. In statistics people like you are called Anecdotal Evidences.

go for Amazon

Definitely take the Amazon offer. You’ll burn the CapOne bridge, but Amazon will open many doors for you once you’ve put in a couple years there.

Why do you consider wlb as a new grad? Go for Amazon, it’s better in ur resume.

Capital One ryannn Mar 2, 2020

Capital One lead here. Go to Amazon for first job. It'll suck, but good career builder. Capital One is generally good company with good pay, but not in FAANG scale.

How do I renege the c1 offer? I feel pretty bad, the internship was legit a good time.

Verizon GoogEsla Mar 2, 2020

I don't think you should emotionally get attached to any company, especially as a new grad. I was in the same boat too, but then I realized the company won't even give a 2nd thought before firing you if it feels the need.

C1 is garbage anyway

Verizon GoogEsla Mar 2, 2020

Just tell your manager you can't join and be honest that you have been offered a better job somewhere else which suits your career.

Goto Amazon. You can't compare capital one to Amazon.

Amazon sndined Mar 2, 2020

Take capital one. No point of joining amazon cause you’ll hate it and wanna go back to capital one which you can’t because you reneged
