It's getting really annoying writing these types of posts. This is like my fourth one which doesn't include the other random small rejections. Initial contact: The recruiter initially contacted me about the Sr. Lead SWE role at Capital One on LinkedIn. From there, it was just hopping on a call and regular recruiter interview. After this, she sent me a CodeSignal coding interview. CodeSignal: In the CodeSignal, there was 4 problems: 2 medium and 2 hard. I was able to easily get the medium problems, but not the hard problems. I don't remember what the problems were, so please don't ask. The medium problems were quick easy IMO. I got these done pretty quickly. The 2 hard problems were actually REALLY hard. When looking at the problems, I had absolutely no idea how to solve them. After I submitted it, I got an email that I passed!!! How? No fucking idea. I had already written in my head that I didn't pass. I guess the bar was really low. Virtual onsite: After the email about passing the CodeSignal, me and recruiter talked about scheduling a virtual onsite. The virtual onsite included 4 interviews: coding interview, case study interview, system design, and behavioral interview. Before I did this onsite interview, I did a quick call with the recruiter and she gave me a walkthrough of how the virtual onsite would happen and tips. The tips weren't helpful at all. Mostly because it wasn't anything new. For each of the interviews, I walked out of them feeling confident. I completed each interview extremely well from the given requirements. Coding interview was your standard leetcode-style interview. Behavior interview was your standard "Give me a time when..." interview. System Design interview was like your normal interview except they seemed to require WAY more details than your normal system design interviews. Maybe I don't understand the system design interviews, because that seems to be something recruiters express is holding me back. I took the interviewer from frontend to backend and in between and explained my reasoning for everything. Case study interview was the only one in which was new to me. They essentially give you a snipbit of code and kinda ask questions about it. The interview essentially had 3 levels of questioning to the problem. I didn't like this one at all. Mostly because the interviewer didn't ask me the questions correctly and then "corrected" me when I didn't do it correctly. She also was home trying to take care of her kids at the same time which was annoying. Rejection call: After about a week, I didn't get any call or email about the results. Honestly, probably because it was in the middle of the weekend. I sent an email noon monday asking about the progress of the interview. I got a call from the recruiter in the early evening saying that the interview didn't go well. Essentially, I got a reject from almost all of the interviewers except the coding interview. During this call, the recruiter didn't seem to really think through how she was going to handle this call, because she all over the place. I would kindly ask her why I failed and the way she described it, it was like a completed different person. She said that I didn't mean the expectations from the interviews. I am very confident I passed ALL those interviews with flying colors. Please Capital One, you aren't that big of a deal. I would try and ask about the interviews and the recruiter would almost panic because she didn't want me to get mad at her. She said "I'm not suppose to be telling you this and I would get in trouble for giving you all this detail". She said I didn't pass the bar of expectations for Sr. Lead SWE. "That's fine" I said, "but, I'm confused because I completed all the requirements from all the interviews and more." She would get more nervous and flip and be like "yes" and then "no". I got no clear idea of what happened. And the wait she described the interview, it made it seems like the interviewers were interviewing someone else. Overall, the fact that they gave me impossible problems in the CodeSignal, the interviewers all seemed to be unprofessional, and recruiter didn't seem to have ANY idea what she was doing, I don't believe I'll be interviewing with Capital One again. Considering my YoE applies to the Sr. Lead SWE, from Levels.fyi it pays š„, and my experience being so depressing, I can't find any good reason to try to appease the Capital One overlords. Capital One, if you are reading this, get over yourself. And I'm not saying this because I got a rejection. I've had other interviews with negative comments about them, but always apply to them again. Not you though. Capital One has tried to rebrand itself as the "Tech Bank Company" but instead it's been branded as the "Worst Bank Company". TC: $0 (Unemployed; quit back in Nov for person reasons) YoE: 8+ #tech #capitalone #interviews
You dodged a bullet. You are much better off at Microsoft than at CapOne that is well known for reorganizations and layoffs.
Makes sense. So much unorganized during the interview process. Nothing seemed to make sense. Microsoft isn't perfect and it had it's annoying and weird company stuff, but not to this degree.
So first of all, you dodged a massive bullet. Thank your lucky stars you don't have to sit through Rich's pretend crying every year and lectures at the town hall about an incompetent cyber VP talking about security while employees are posting internal auth tokens in the zoom chat. But moreover, it's pretty clear you didn't interview well. I've had my fair share of interviews where the interview is rude and they don't communicate well (aka its on them). But 3/4 indicates that was not the case. Lick your wounds and put your nose back to the grinding wheel
I did the codesignal and didn't get a pass Funny thing is that I have passed Meta , Amazn, MSFT, Twitter and many more before C1 please get over yourself š
It's quite easy to pass code signal idk what questions you guys got.
I recently gave Amazon SDE 2 interview. I had the same opinion of me doing well in all rounds. But no feedback was provided. The market is highly competitive and the decision are taken by pure instincts as the candidates are all close in technical bar is my assumption.
What questions did they ask for technical and for system design
OP can you please share or can I DM you for it?

Why leave Microsoft? Msft is a company I'd like to join in the near future
Previous job was MSFT. Currently unemployed, but applying to go back to MSFT.
