Synopsys vs Intel
Which company would you join if you have offers for SWE position from both ? Why? TC is 🥜 in both cases. Same location, same TC

I've heard some not so great things about synopsys' wlb, no idea if it's true
I worked there and had great WLB. I guess it varies from team to team
wlb doesn’t exist so even if it’s true perhaps if one couldn’t find a particular role at Nvidia they felt was a good fit this would be the next best option(Synopsys) it’s actually a great company with super smart peeps. highly underrated

SNPS is a cool company to work for. Lots of smart PhD colleagues and interesting problems. Unfortunately, their comp is not elite. Id say its about average. But other than that, I had a great time working there
most PhD colleagues I have are smug.
For real Cadence? I dont have a PhD and the ones that had one in my team at SNPS were super down to earth. My best friend there has a PhD from Princeton and was super chill. I would say 70% of my group had PhDs
Which bu are you joining at intel? Depends on that. I think intel pays lower to swe compared to equivalent grades in core businesses (confirmed through internal openings), it's also driven by demand though. Cons of intel (apart from low tc) - Intels code base might be older, that's one major complain. - too many people in the group doing the same thing so it's difficult to get noticed/progress in career - most lower level engineers i talked to don't really know details of the tools, everything is automated (if you're in a mature team) which can be good and bad. - cant change teams for 12 months if you don't like your team after joining - i think there's this top down boomer culture where employees are promoted based on years of experience rather than quality of work. Pros of intel: - all processes are very good and if you're an immigrant that's very helpful. - architects themselves work on same things as other engineers - there are lot of projects going on at intel so i would say switching teams should be easier. - they try to build diverse teams Don't know much about synopsis so can't comment.

From an overall, average perspective, they are almost indistinguishable. That being said, what org/team/product are we talking about here? That could make a huge difference. Is SWE at Synopsys developing an EDA tool? Or just DevOps? At Intel is it working on data center product? Or software libraries for Intel chipset? Or just glue scripting in the CAD team?
