Scorpions in Austin and Dallas Texas?

How common is to it find scorpions 🦂 in your home while living in Texas? I’ve read a few articles and heard from locals that it depends on the area. TC: TBD, New grad #Texas #housing

Not trying to be a jerk, but it’s in the first line: “How common is to it find...” @Apple, your reply reads harshly.

Moved to Dallas two years ago, have never seen a scorpion. Have seen plenty in Phoenix, though.

Never heard of people having them in Austin

I have lived in Texas my whole life and have only seen a scorpion inside my house once. It was such an unusual event that we named the scorpion Charlie before killing him. All that to say, scorpions in cities in Texas are really rare, they’re found in more rural locations.

Bye bye Charlie

Why do you feel you had to kill poor Charlie? Couldn't just relocate him? RIP Charlie

I lived in Austin along the greenbelt and had them for a year while my apartment did construction. When their habitat is impacted, they find ways inside. They like rocky surfaces (walls, ceilings, hard floors) but not carpets. Do some research on the type you see to give you peace of mind - most aren’t deadly or toxic. I never stepped on one despite catching about 5. My Austin peers never saw any in their homes 😃

5 in your home? That is really scary!

Amazon jMCK17 Feb 28, 2021

You’ll find them if you live in a rural area that’s undergoing construction - their habitats are being disrupted and they’ll find ways to new food/shelter (is, yours!) They’re not common. I’ve lived in Texas for 25 years and seen maybe... 4? I also lived next to an urban creek known to be a breeding ground for the buggers.

May find cougars in your bed

Most people will capture their own scorpion and then train it to become their pet. In return, you train that scorpion to conquer and kill other scorpions for you

Lived in Austin for ten years, the only time I saw scorpions was when I lived right next to the greenbelt and stacked a big stack of rocks on the back of my property. They set up shop in those rocks.

I’ve lived in Dallas for 5 years and never seen one. I do go to Austin pretty often to visit and have seen a couple in rental houses (1 was near greenbelt).
