I have received an offer from Uber ATG - Pittsburgh. I am a Software Engineer I in Microsoft with about 1.5 year experience. I have a MS degree in CS as well. The recruiter is asking about Microsoft compensation details but they are not impressive. What shall I do to negotiate? Is it possible to get Engineer II at Uber ATG?
Congrats! I echo that advice - don't give details of your current salary. Keep in mind, Uber benefits are very generous (food, free rides, unlimited vacation) and also cost of living is pretty cheap in Pittsburgh. You'd be joining a really great team. (Ignore the BS here on the Blind forums.)
1.5 years exp means you're likely to be slotted as eng 1 at Uber. Eng 2 is typically 3-4 years exp. When I did my comp negotiation, I was pretty vague and insisted that they give me a "market rate offer." They knew FB was competing at the time which helped a lot. I didn't give any past comp info and was happy with what I got at Uber.
Thanks everyone. I see on Uber careers that ATG has some openings in SF too. I currently live in bay area. There is some opportunity cost in re-locating (friends, weather etc), so I am wondering if it will be different working in SF as compared to Pittsburgh.
Tell us the comp and we will let you know
The recruiter told me about the offer last week but no communication after that. I am still interviewing with other companies, therefore did not ping the recruiter to send numbers in case that compresses my timeline.
Don't go to Pittsburgh. Mobility is low there. You can easily move to other companies here in bay area later to advance your career. Uber also has a Palo Alto office that you can ask about. ATG in my view is the best group at Uber - the VP is a strong ex Googler and the team has many veterans from Google Maps. Getting another offer is the best way to increase comp.
I have gotten another offer from Snapchat, which is in LA. Since most of Uber ATG is in PA, will it be a good idea to work in Palo Alto/SF?
Palo Alto always better since you will have more career opportunities here later
I got an offer from Snapchat too and the recruiter told me that they won't be able to give a competing offer (40-50k less in base than snap and 150k less in equity) and it won't make sense for me to join there. So, they are rescinding their offer. It seemed very unprofessional to me. Does that happen often with Uber?

Don't need to answer the question directly. Tell them you are talking to other companies too and that ____ is the market rate you are going for. SE2 might be possible depending on how well you did in the interview. Having an Ivy League degree and relevant experience would also be great.
