about to get an offer for l4 and want to know some baseline on what to ask for. I'm also curious about ways to excercize the options and what I can expect those to be if anyone knows! thanks in advance TC 250K
Some people left but honestly they weren’t that good. Still many good people are around.
Some of the engineers who have recently left were good, some less so. There are, of course, still good engineers remaining at the company, and also some less good ones left. ;) But to say "oh those guys who left weren't that good" I think is both unfair and perhaps speaks to some culture issues if we can't be honest about what's going on. To OP: I think you can read a lot of the threads and pick up on some of the challenges at the company currently. Even if not for the pandemic there'd be some uncertainty going on, so if stability is a big deal, you're better staying at Google. But there are good people and projects within Niantic so it might be worthwhile even if things go downhill. Can you say what office and what teams you're looking at? Re: equity: it's a private company so there's generally no way to sell your shares. There have been one-off tender offers in the past but I would not anticipate anything like that any time soon. However, you can keep them for 10 years even if you leave so you don't need to worry about losing the options -- you can hold on to the lottery ticket for a while and only exercise if they're worth something.
Don’t join. Thank me later.
Can someone comment on the product culture at the various teams at niantic?
