Since college I have owned 3 MacBooks and 1 Lenovo. Each Mac has only lasted approximately 2 years before something major needs to get replaced or they break. Meanwhile my Lenovo ran perfectly for 5 years. The only thing keeping me crawling back to mac is their OS. (Maybe I’m unlucky, everyone seems to have to opposite experience)
Mac books are fine pieces of hardware, but MacOS is trash
I have the opposite experience. My MacAir that I got during my graduation is still going on for 10 years.
In my experience, my 2010 air is still in full use (personal). Used that throughout PhD too. Only thing trash is power cable.
Haven’t had problems with mac, but my lenovo are always had troubles. The current Thinkpad can’t get enough power from 130w usbc and dies if I launch compiling
Don’t know what you’re talking about .Macs are superior to Windows Laptops. Have you tried the new Apple Silicon ones.
My work laptop is an M2 and I do really like it. I enjoyed all my macs, but I found myself often replacing batteries, network cards and even motherboards. Most windows laptops are trash, but their upper tier are built quite well.
what’s wrong with replacing batteries? batteries degrade. i would say its normal to replace after 4-5 years of usage if you want full charge again. i have had my m1 pro for 2.5 years now and im at like 91% capacity. no intentions of upgrading any time soon or replacing battery. but if it starts going to like 80% battery then i dont find a 100-200 dollar battery swap to be a bad spend
I used my last mac for 7 years
Computes if these are used as paper weights.
I have a 11” MBA from 2015, works like a charm. Forget even that, I have a 17” MBP from 2008 (pre unibody model) and it still works well.
My MacBook Air is still going, 9 years in
You are definitely in the minority. MBs usually last for a decade or more.
