I have a couple offers that pay around 400 k Netflix prestige is amazing but the manager expectations are very high, most team members complain of bad wlb Would I be making a big mistake by rejecting it?
no
You’re smart ass. Don’t look back.
It depends what the other companies are to be honest. It is getting increasingly harder to move jobs in tech, and in a couple years the great replacement will be well underway. By that point, having big names on your resume will be even more important
Great replacement as in AI?
Yeah, or just generally workers getting axed for cheaper alternatives, whether it be AI, other software, cheaper foreign labor. The only people left employed will be specialized and highly skilled, basically architects that check the results. GINI index will approach 1
The ones that complain about WLB are probably desperately trying to hold onto their job at Netflix because they know it will be difficult to get another job elsewhere that pays them anywhere close to what they are currently making. If you aren’t worried about that, then you will be fine.
What would you say typical WLB looks like at Netflix?
Following
You can do a pros and cons list to analyze the various offers across all the dimensions. Seems simple but it can be a powerful tool to see the bigger picture for a decision
They complain because they don't want competition :)
How did you get an interview at Netflix ?
They reached out to me
Do you have some special skills ?
Don’t join a bad mgr or team whatever you do. Not worth any amount of money. If you have a decent situation and not financially struggling, and care about wlb, don’t do it. TC doesn’t capture $/per hour. It’s a massive blind spot on here (pun intended).
If you have an offer from this hiring manager you’re fearful of, you should be crystal clear on the expectations of what you’ll need to deliver in what timeframe be viewed as a successful hire. If not, you need to have that conversation with him/her/them before accepting. Otherwise, you’re setting yourself for failure. Side note…a 400k comp is serious money and unfortunately, work life balance takes a back seat to execution. If that’s more important than the money, look for something else.
No, prioritize what is important to you. Money isn’t always everything, make the choice that is best for your current stage of life
