Why did Silicon Valley swing hard right?
What companies allow you to work remotely globally? Not just US-remote. So far these companies seem to: - Sourcegraph - Airbnb (3 month max in each country) - Gitlab - Metabase
Gitlab?
Very cool. I wonder what they would do about your compensation if you lived in the US most of the year and then the rest of your months in Asia. I wonder if they would still pay you HCOL salaries. They say they pay by local but who knows in practice how this works out if you’re constantly on the move or most of the year in a HCOL area.
The compensation at GitLab is based on your permanent location. You can't just be traveling around the world and change country every month. Like any company, you have a contract based on your fiscal residence (wherever that is). If you want to move permanently somewhere else, you'll need approval, since your compensation and contract will change. Moving around temporarily is fine, as long as you still live in your primary country long enough each year to still pay taxes there (usually that's min 6 months).
Uber never cared when I was there, they have 1 month remote from anywhere but if you’re manager is cool then it’s not a strict deadline
Uber is back to office now, at least x days a week.
