America is just not a good deal anymore. I can’t believe the H1bs on here salivating at the thought of getting GC. WTF???? I look at my senior L5 / L6 peers in the Bay. They can’t even afford homes. Their sweet release / paradise will be getting remote approval and buying some big McMansion out in the middle of nowhere in Waxahachie, Texas. These are people earning $300-400k/year, the “1%” of this country. I’ve lived in CA, NY, AZ, spent a few months in TX, and FL. And the cost of everything is fucking insane. Decent one bedrooms start at $3k, decent homes start at $5k mortgages with current interest rates. I genuinely don’t understand the hype for this country; who wants to pay $5k/month mortgage to live in Texas where their life consists of going to strip malls and Walmart? America is culturally and artistically dead, the surplus and strong labor economy from avoiding WW2 destruction is gone. I can’t believe the QOL / ease of life I hear from my grandpas generation. I’m a 95th percentile earner for my age and I feel squeezed. I just feel like complaining. I went to a great school, got a good job, in the “best paying” country in the world, and the reality that is in front of me isn’t as good as I thought it’d be. I seriously doubt my life would be that much different if I was working some $80k a year help desk remote job. TC: $170k YOE: 4 / L4 MCOL / Remote
Still better than Europe
How to say "I've never been to Europe" without saying "I've never been to Europe"
@Snap USA is better than Europe and I’ve been to Europe multiple times.
Can you buy a house in Europe while being L5?
No but you can buy a nice condo in the homeless free city where despite the smaller size, it's better than American condos. Everything if space efficient, walls are thicker, better soundproofing.
And what paradise would you be moving to where you could buy a house that's not in a bumfuck nowhere and afford a great life with local pay.
Until you grew up in a 3rd world country, you’ll understand. Citizenship/residence of a first world economy is a very, very understated privilege
This is very very true. Anyone who denies it is ignorant of what immigrants go through, especially those coming from India and China. I have a privileged passport and the amount of opportunities I got just because of that is simply unfair.
Sure, GTFO. But first buy you dream house in EU then while having TC 170
I am planning to get a remote tech job in HCOL US and live in Europe and buy the property there. I will have to pay double income tax but its still way better
Because tax treaties are not a thing?
No because I want social benefits in EU like the health care and I want my social security from US once I retire
Wait till you see the prices in India for similar sized homes in metropolitan areas 😂
Exactly!!! Tell them! Work 50hr week to make $400k which becomes $20k savings after mortgage tax retirement savings health kids misc. and you get fking 15 days off over 365 days. And get your car broken into in the middle of a city where people pay $3k for 600sq ft space cuz downtown vibe. Drive 40mins to get to work. Spend $40k on car. $5k on gas. And insurance scam will hit you from behind cuz inflation hikes are everywhere except in your salary. USA is good if you are uber rich. Even then your definition of good is not real. It’s something you created and it’s a lie
