After 40 years of neoliberal “trickle-down” politics from both parties, people aren’t buying it anymore. https://splinternews.com/fox-news-hosts-not-coping-well-with-finding-out-most-am-1832362165
“76 percent want other people to pay more taxes while they pay less” Why is this surprising. This is just as bad as the populist bullshit that Trump ran on, except it actually has potential to harm our economy as people try harder to hide wealth. We had insanely high taxes at the top bracket before. They were lowered not because of sympathy for rich people, but because it didn’t work well.
It worked out well enough for economic and government leaders for 40 years. Neoliberalism worked well for them for another 40 years... but now that’s not working well. More importantly is who it is not working well for. As you said, of course people want others to pay costs... and corporations have successfully done that for 40 years. But now we are heading to an impasse as the democracy no longer wants to pay higher fees for poorer and worse services while tax breaks and giveaways were offered to “incentivize growth”. The majority want good services, the ability to keep up with the cost of living... and they are growing more confident to demand that the rich pay for it just as the rich asked the majority to cover more costs, work harder, be more “flexible” for a generation now.
They were lowered by Reagan in 1981 and it is widely considered that this immediately caused a recession. No one any longer thinks Reagan's economic ideas are viable. So no they weren't lowered because they weren't working. They were lowered because Reagan tried his "trickle down" idea that just failed.
You post a splinter article and complain Fox News is biased?
No I wasn’t complaining of FOX News’ bias. I posted this because of the videos of Fox News hosts looking foolish.
Did it make you feel better or something?
Everyone wants the people just above their income level to pay all the taxes. Fortunately or unfortunately, the rich already pay the vast majority of taxes that we all benefit from.
Corporations and the super rich want to push the tax burden onto everyone below them - and have been successfully doing it for a generation or two now. When business does this it’s called “economics” and treated as natural law. When the population tries to do the same thing, it’s call class warfare.
Except corporations and the super rich are paying a higher percentage of the tax burden than at any point in US history.
Virtually everyone thinks the rich should pay more but the devil is in the details - just who is "rich" and how should the tax be implemented? That's where most of the disagreement is at.
fox news is a joke. they live in their own world and i dont like cnn either. each od them have their own agenda and propaganda. People watching both of them are just making a fool of themselves. stop loving your politicians and stop hating each other.
But Splinter isn’t?
