Does anyone know or have experience in how California treats remote workers who are residents of another state and work for a company headquartered in California with regards to state income tax? Online on the CA Franchise Tax Board site, it seems that the CA FTB does claim taxes for work income done in, or connected to, work in California, even for non-CA residents. Does remote work outside of CA, but for companies headquartered in CA, count towards CA taxable income, either by this FTB regulation, or by practice? Any information or experience would be very appreciated.
If 100% remote you're not taxed by CA. If not, tax is prorated based on days in CA. If you leave CA for another state, you must completely disconnect from CA and establish in another state or ftb will consider you a CA resident.
