The job market is in pretty bad shape right now. I am curious if there are enough opportunities for all those who have been recently laid off Blind tax: TC120k
Another job isn’t hard to find but matching your previous FANG comp will be hard let alone exceeding it.
No interviews as I was laid off with several months worth of experience :(
Is it just me or is it a lot worse for DS than SWE?
Curious about this. I feel like it’s different depending on the DS domain. growth data science like marketing concentration is probably impacted highest, I wonder how much product analytics is impacted
DS was already a more competitive market before layoffs, so that would make sense.
Would expect DS roles to be much more “optimisation” or research based vs more necessary SWE prod roles.
Would you care to elaborate?
Sure thing bro, so in most cases I’ve seen at least, DS is a nice thing to have, cuts costs, introduces new features, automates tasks, etc. however it’s not vital as such, I.e in its current state it’s not prod ready in many cases, and not necessary in others. Think Google, IBM, Meta. Yes IBM is doing quantum stuff with ML, but how necessary is it really?
I wasn't laid off, but have been interviewing and it is a complete hell. I've had a couple of companies just don't extend offers after successfully completing loop arguing getting headcount cut.
My team is hiring Sr DA, DS, DE, Sr DS Mgr. DM for a referral
Senior level, I have had lots of opportunities but they fill quickly or disappear
Spoke with 20 companies, wanted to move forward with 10, 4 had hiring vanish/layoffs start mid-late process, 1 declined me, 2 offers, 3 filled roles just ahead of my final interview as an example. It’s very competitive, you have to move fast and it’s very chaotic
I found my next job through my previous connections. That was my only offer. Luckily, I almost matched my pre-layoff comp, but gained WLB and higher level. The learning: be good to your colleagues, build reputation, build connections.
Nielsen layoffs?
Already happened a week ago
Curious how your package look like
