https://vividmaps.com/tap-water-safe-to-drink/ "Only 50 countries offer drinkable tap water, most of which are in Europe. In comparison, only three North American countries (the United States, Canada, and Costa Rica) and one South American nation (Chile) have drinkable tap water. Every African country and most countries in parts of Asia and Oceania (including China and the Philippines) lack safe water."
Meanwhile people from Bangalore: You guys have water!?
Flint Michigan in the US disagrees
Why should resources be wasted on making all tap water drinkable? I don’t need to drink water while taking a shower, or from my bathroom basin, or from my bidget. Makes no sense. Just 1 tap in the house with fresh drinkable water should be enough.
Because treating water at scale is cheaper than having and maintaining 2 entire separate pipe networks for potable/non-potable
No, it’s not. That’s why developed and wealthy nations have this luxury. And btw, the world is running on scaricity of fresh water, not money.
This map is utter garbage. Many countries in former Soviet Union have drinkable water, but all of them are red here. Therefore, I do not trust anything else shown on this map.
The map may be outdated or using some very strict criteria. If you look up some countries in Eastern Europe that are now part of EU and were part of USSR the water is safe to drink except for some rural areas. In most cases water comes from deep underground an not from lakes and rivers like US. I do not drink tap water anywhere without filtering. In US it tastes plain gross with lots of chlorene and sometimes has a mud taste and sometimes various chemicals can be higher than ideal levels if you read reports of your local utility. I use RO filter.
I had a friend in college who swore that tap water in Mexico was so rife with GI bacteria that it was unfit to drink. But he wouldn't mind brushing his teeth and rinsing with the same tap water?
The water from the other countries boosts your immune system
That map is widely inaccurate. Some countries that have better water quality than US are in the unsafe list.
They know
Literally nobody in their right mind would drink American tap water. Ever hear of Flint Michigan?
That's anacdotal as any other name you'll drop. There are places with different water quality in the US (and elsewhere), which makes this map kinda pointless.
But no one drinks tap water here.
Nobody in their right mind would drink tap water in the US also. Edit: https://amp.theguardian.com/us-news/2021/mar/31/americas-tap-water-samples-forever-chemicals
Why lol
