Which technology is safe from AI

With recent layoff in FAANG and Microsoft stating one of the reason of layoff being “ … the same time, the next major wave of computing is being born with advances in AI, as we’re turning the world’s most advanced models into a new computing platform.”, which sector in technology will be safe from the impact of AI? #tech #ai

Anything like search, advertising, or social media is dead. Metaverse, Fintech, AI are fine.

Stop it with the AI garbage. Nothing is dead or scaling down because of AI. Not only will the AI need to be developed but the systems that offer it to the end user will be too and the infrastructure will be no different then the scaling it took to build large distributed systems we all use today. Getting really close to having to delete this app with all the stupid on here (not you OP, comments).

There's no coping here. You're probably one of the people who thought tech was headed over seas 15 years ago too Fudders guna fud.

What made you think that?

AI is the latest overhyped thing. A year from now, that chatgpt thing will be remembered with the same fond cynicism we reserve for NFT collectibles that were the last overhyped thing. It’s a parlor trick, on which companies will squander buckets of cash but have little to show for. Eventually, AI’s time will come. But not in the 2020s.

Just noticed dmkm45’s wisecrack about the overseas threat: now that 15 years has gone by, and the US has made clear its intent to make immigrant life more miserable than ever, I’m pretty sure we WILL see a lot of software job growth overseas. Watch geographic distribution of headcount reduction among all the layoff announcements. My company hired 7,500 in India last couple of years. I’m betting the (coincidental?) 7,500 laid off will come mainly at expense of USA and Japan, with only a token few of those Indian jobs declared “redundant”. (The Salesforce 10% reduction is less than halfway completed so far, so we don’t know where the rest of the cuts will be yet).
