All-hands this morning with CEO. June 30 is final day. Tiny R&D skeleton crew retained. Oh, well. We tried.
Wow, the entire site was let go aside from that small crew? Is that site just engineering or non technical groups to?
Santa Clara is almost all engineering, both traditional vehicle and software/IoT style engineers.
Definitely learned how not to do things. The biggest issue I have is most automotive startup leadership is floating on this cloud of delusion. They won't take sensible inputs from people who have experienced the ill effects of their approach and generally perceive the input as negativity. In the end, everyone suffers.
Bingo. This is a frequent blind spot within every startup. Particularly when all executives come from legacy OEMs where the culture of buttlick hierarchy is an everyday affair.
What's odd is 5 people as of today 'liked' this post. Seriously? Way to be kind people...
I have found both the startup community and the SV culture to be quite dark toward fellow innovators. Frequent kicking of things when they are down. Wasn’t quite expecting it.
Sad to see another start up going down. This is an issue for legacy OEMs as well. If we don't feel your breath behind our backs, we'll just keep doing whatever we've been doing for the past 100 years. I hope new companies other than Tesla can challenge the status quo... Otherwise the industry will not evolve
And now they're furloughing most/all of China as well. I would just say BYTON is dead. Just bury that name and start over...

Still bitter about how incompetent our management is at fundraising. Not only are we getting laid off with zero severance, If you check Chinese news websites, you’ll see articles about our China colleagues not receiving any paychecks for 4 months, the factory shutting down since we didn’t pay the electric bill, and our unpaid millions of dollars of debt to other auto companies...
Sounds very similar to FF. Operating like there is $$$ in the bank. Our China team also hasn’t been getting paid
