I was looking through Zillow’s job posts and I see A LOT of job posts for engineering roles in Mexico/Mexico City and it got me very intrigued. 1. Is Zillow moving their engineering team to Mexico? 2. Will compensation be lower in Mexico for same kind of roles? 3. Or is Zillow opening market in Mexico now? I’m really interested since I legally allowed to work down in Mexico so that could be a cool move. TC: 150k YOE: 8 #zillow #zillowgroup
Oh, we have the schools, what we don’t have is enough people wanting to get into software development like India does, since it’s mostly not well paid (I got offered ~1500/month for a senior role once)
"Mexican SWE are superior to Indian Ones" Is there a source for this apart from your racism? FYI, I regularly work with both Indian and Mexican devs and don't see any difference.
Hopefully Zillow enters Mexico, all real state website and realtors are joke
I don't know what you mean by how Zillow works. I bought a house in the US and also one in Mexico, as a user it's much easier to find with Zillow. Fun fact I tried to get my mortgage through better.com but the rate was not competitive lol
yeah I get that, but realtors in US are much more professional, there are formalized standards and process for realtors, which lacks in Mexico, most "realtors" publish however they want in their wordpress, with minimal information, useless pictures, no clues on housing. zillow could standardize the information input
Zillow is hiring only Mexicans all this year
How's the pay
Given that we were able to hire some good folks, i would say its good.
Engineering headcount is expanding in Mexico. No plans of going to mexico market afaik. They have mentioned that TC is 1/3 of an American hired dev.
I’ve seen the numbers, and it’s much more than that. We’re very competitive down there
Good to know, but if we didn't save much money then why outsource?
Interesting, do you know why they chose Mexico? Just curious
Yes, you will be paid way less. Oursourcing is what companies are doing these days
