I hate my job @ Snap

I joined Snap less than a year. Probably got into the wrong team but didn’t realized that from the beginning. The team’s work is very uninteresting, mostly fixing and maintaining an internal platform. There hasn’t been much learning as the system is pretty simple and standard. My manager is new doesn’t really care about people. He’d show support only to get things done with very little empathy. Dude keeps asking why x, y, z isn’t completed in the daily scrum meeting even when he knows the people on it were occupied with different tasks on their plates. He sets unrealistic deadlines and expects people to sacrifice their personal life to deliver on time (like he does). Most of my teammates are nice, but the one that I’m working with showing off by different means that he’s doing most of the work, not including me in meetings with stakeholders, or make decisions without weighing my opinions in. I really want to quit as this point but afraid of getting unemployed in the current market. It’s close to the perf review time, so I’m afraid of a bad review would block my internal transfer. My personal life is not going well either. I’ve tried to work overtime & on the weekend to meet the deadlines, but I’m feeling very desparate and have suicidal thoughts sometimes. First take care of your mental health- call someone you trust, see a therapist, get back to doing things you love with your free time. Then start interviewing and leave.

If work is beginning to make you feel unwell, there's something definitely toxic in that workplace that is cause for concern. I totally agree with bNHL62 for a majority of what he or she says, too. 😊

Hold him accountable for something that can stick. Go down the list of your civil rights, first. Is he facilitating a hostile work environment by actively engaging in favoritism, treating you different for your race, gender identity, sex, sexual orientation, disability, or suspected disabilities? Let's start here and build a case from there.

I feel you bro, I was in the same situation about a year ago (not at Uber). Just hang on, it will get better I promise. And remember it is just a job at the end of the day, worst case you quit or they fire you. Just move on to another role. Never worth compromising your life and health over this.

It’s common to land in a new company, only to realize the team, culture, manager or even the company is not a good fit. Treat it like a job, your mental health comes first. You have a long road you’ll realize there are good moves and bad moves career wise, and you can’t blame yourself for not catching it. Also see a doctor/therapist asap.
