Honey/PayPal culture?

Saw some negative recent reviews for Honey and wondering what’s happened recently. How is the culture of engineering and the org? Is the collaboration between engineers and product (and other non-eng) good? Is the performance bonus and equity refresher competitive comparing to other companies in the same tier? TC: 400k

Great question. All the questions you have unfortunately has negative answers. As any company, highly dependent on the team Culture. But generally toxic. Long working hours with minimum pay increase yearly. Refreshers are a joke.

Honey's culture isn't toxic at all, I'm not sure about the rest of PayPal though.

Honey never gets me discounts or deals anymore so idk the point of it

PayPal is absorbing Honey more and more which is why the recent reviews are negative, it's a different feel from what Honey used to be imo. Pay is same as PayPal so you can just look over there, not FAANG but still decent especially with the recent stock rise in the past year.

Hey there. So I think I can provide some insight. Honey is still an amazing place to work, but it’s not a startup anymore and that doesn’t work for some people. We are becoming more integrated into PayPal but the culture is still very separated and we ship much quicker. We continuously hit and exceed our targets. But the big con is getting promoted at PayPal is insanely difficult. They don’t value retaining talent - a promotion costs them much less than hiring somebody who isn’t even of the same caliber which is what happens when Honey people leave and they don’t seem to realize that. The attitude is “fine if they want to leave because they’re not getting promoted then let them leave”. People I submit for promotion get rejected all the time due to “budget”.

Do y’all ever find deals anymore? I shop a lot online with honey on and haven’t gotten a discount or useful information in probably like 1-2 months

We do! I think it’s roughly 1/3 of runs find a coupon. You can use Honey to see which stores have high coupon success rates. Stores like JCrew tend to have coupons a lot. Amazon obviously does not.
